I would like to bring my daughter to the theme parks in Goldcoast.  So it’s a weekend getaway in Brisbane!  The money left of the $1000 will be used for food tripping.

What other career have you always been interested in? If you could do it for a day, what would you like to do?

I wanted to do volunteer work for the longest time. I’m dreaming that one day, financial obligations aside, I’d be able to join a non-profit organization caring for children.

Okay, so we are pretty much split for cooking on the grill, gas or charcoal. What about indoor cooking? Gas or electric?

For indoor cooking, I prefer gas. I find that it is harder to moderate or control electric stoves.

If you had to cut costs, what would you give up first?

Grocery extras like sweets, ice cream, all desserts! I couldn’t think of other things to give up because we pretty much stick to our allotted budget.

What is your favorite dessert?

I love desserts! I’m always biased to ice-cream. It’s Bulla brand for me!

What three things do you have planned for this weekend?

1. Go to Hyde Park, Sydney city proper on Saturday - done!

2. Royal National Park on Sunday (after church)

3. Grocery day on Monday (it’s a holiday here)! Chill at home in the afternoon.

I play with my daughter.

What is the oldest thing you own? What is the newest?

The oldest thing I own is a pair of pants and shoes from 5 years ago. I still love wearing them! The newest thing I own is a foot spa kit, a gift from my husband.

When was your last vacation? Where did you go?

I had my last vacation in November to January this year. We stayed in the Philippines that long as part of our transition from Singapore to Sydney. Barring any problems, we are all set for our holiday trip to the Philippines in December. We just need to pick-up the tickets!

On a sliding scale of 1 (wide awake) to 10 (already snoring) how tired are you today?

I slept past midnight last night and woke up very energetic. It might be because it’s the weekend and I’m at my happiest on weekends! I’ll definitely feel sluggish come Monday. So my scale is a 1. Yes a 1! Hee hee.

If you could work for any company in the entire world, what company would you want to work for?

I’ve always dreamed of working for the United Nations. I guess that dream went out of the window when I moved to the Information Technology field and worked as a SAP consultant.

Why do women need to carry so much stuff in their purses? Whatcha got in there?

My husband asks those questions ALL the time. Ha ha. I have my wallet, a small comb, 2 cellphones (one for use in Australia and the other to send SMS to the Philippines), a lipstick and chapstick, sweets, tissue pack, hair clip and my passport (only until I get my driver’s license converted)!

Are you loyal to brand names? What would it take for you to switch to a different product?

I am very loyal to the brands I use. The company’s bad reputation, poor service or low product quality will definitely make me switch to another brand.

Do you push the speed limit?

When I was a younger driver back home in the Philippines, I’ve done so many, many times. I like the adrenalin rush of driving really fast (and yes beyond the speed limit) especially along the highway.

But when I got older and started driving in Singapore and now here in Sydney, I lost my “fearless” attitude toward driving. All the more now that I have a passenger, my daughter.

What is your top economic woe? What have you put off doing, or stopped buying because of the economy?

My husband was surfing news sites last night and he showed me an article about USA Today’s Survey: USA in Recession. And that for me is my top economic woe. Just thinking of the spillover effect of that globally scares and saddens me. More people will lose jobs, more people will go hungry, more people will do bad things in order to survive.

And so, we remain practical spenders in terms of our household expenses. We buy what we really need and rewarding ourselves once in a while. We have decided to cut down on our travel plans this year just leaving a major holiday trip to Manila in December. There are so many things we can do to save money and I’m still learning a few tips and tricks here and there.

I can’t think of anything that I will not miss in April. It was a good month. I am looking forward to cooler weather (it’s our first autumn and winter..) and the launch of a blog project!
